PetCareBoard text messages
Last updated August 7, 2026
PetCareBoard is a shared board for looking after animals. A household writes down what each animal needs, and everyone caring for them checks tasks off as they go. Our text messages exist for one reason: so that an overdue feeding or a missed dose reaches the person responsible when email would not.
Texts are opt-in only, from your own account, and never a condition of using PetCareBoard. We do not text anyone a number that somebody else entered.
How to opt in — the complete flow
There are two ways in, and both require action from the person who owns the phone.
Path 1 — in the app (the primary path)
- Create an account or sign in at petcareboard.com.
- Open Account from the bottom navigation bar.
- Find the section headed “Text messages” and type your own mobile number into the field labelled “Your mobile number”.
- Tick the consent checkbox. It is empty by default — no box is ever pre-checked, and nothing else on the page turns texts on. The label next to it reads, in full:“I agree to receive text messages from PetCareBoard about overdue care tasks and supply alerts for my household, at the mobile number above. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of using PetCareBoard.”
- Press Save text settings. We record the date and time, the number, and the exact wording above as your consent record.
- You receive one confirmation text. From then on you get only the messages listed below.
Path 2 — by text keyword
From the mobile number you want to use, text START to (857) 382-6273. You will receive the same confirmation message. This path is mainly for resubscribing after a previous STOP.
What we never do
- We never pre-check the consent box, and never bundle it with the terms you accept at sign-up. It is a separate, deliberate action.
- We never text a number entered by anyone other than its owner. A household owner cannot switch texts on for a member or a sitter.
- We never require a phone number. Every feature of PetCareBoard works without one.
- We never send marketing texts, and never share your number — see below.
What we send
- Overdue care reminders— a nudge when a task on your own board is overdue (for example, “Biscuit's evening meds are overdue”).
- Supply and restock alerts — a heads-up when a supply you marked critical runs out, or when it is time to check whether you still have enough of something.
That is the whole program. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages, and we do not text anyone an invitation — invitations go by email to the address the inviter entered.
Example messages
PetCareBoard: You are subscribed to care alerts for your animals. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.
PetCareBoard: 2 tasks are overdue at The Hollis Farmhouse: Olive's thyroid tablet, goats' hay. Open your board: https://petcareboard.com Reply STOP to opt out.
PetCareBoard: You are out of Cosequin at The Hollis Farmhouse, so Willow's joint supplement is on hold. It is on the shopping list. Reply STOP to opt out.
How often, and what it costs
Message frequency.Message frequency varies and depends on your household's activity and the settings you choose. Care reminders are sent only when a task is actually overdue, and are bundled so that a household sends at most one reminder message per person per hour — a typical household receives roughly 0–5 messages per week. These are recurring messages.
We text only between 8am and 9pm in your own local time. Anything that comes up outside those hours reaches you by email instead, so your phone stays quiet overnight — including when you are travelling.
Message and data rates may apply. PetCareBoard does not charge you for text messages, but your mobile carrier may charge you for the messages you send and receive under your plan.
How to stop, and how to get help
To stop receiving texts, reply STOP to any message from us, or turn text messages off on your Account page. We will send one final message confirming you have been unsubscribed, and then we will stop texting that number. You can opt back in at any time by replying START or by turning text messages back on in your Account page.
For help, reply HELP to any message from us, or email support@petcareboard.com. Opting out of texts does not close your account or stop the email notifications you have chosen — you will keep getting those unless you turn them off too.
Opt-in keywords: START, YES, UNSTOP. Opt-out keywords: STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT. Help keywords: HELP, INFO.
Your number stays with us
We never share your mobile number
No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party for any purpose other than delivering the messages you asked for.
The only parties who ever touch your mobile number are the service providers that help us send the message — such as our messaging carrier — and they may use it solely to deliver that message on our behalf. They may not use it for their own marketing.
